my car won't start but i have a new battery?

Hello!

i replaced my car battery a few months ago with a brand new one. This morning my car wouldn't start. at first it sounded like it was trying to but then after a few attempts it sounded like when my battery died before but surely a brand new battery wouldn't die after a few months? I am in the middle of all this snow at the moment but i drove the car yesterday and it was fine. Could it be something else or do i need to call up the company that sold me the new battery and give them an earful? the other half told me off as i pumped the accelorator starting it and apparently this floods the engine?
its a peugeot 306 1999. i definately didn't leave anything running and the battery was definately brand new. Some people have mentioned the alternator belt. Hoping that isn't expesive...it sounds it!
