Check engine lights comes on after oil change. What could be the possible cause?

I have just bought a used 1990 Mercedes Benz ML 430. One of my routines when I buy used vehicles is to Change Engine Oil. I used the vehicle for about four days and she ran well. I only a couple of days ago changed the Engine Oil which was very dark when drained. I used synthetic oil. A couple of hours after changing the oil, the Check Engine Light Came on. I disconnected the battery because I wanted to repair the lock to the trunk. When I reconnected the battery, the check engine light was extinguished for a few minutes of driving but came one again and has stayed on since then. Can anyone help? My BAS light has been permanently on since i bought the vehicle. I also need help on this.
